FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is the normal season? The WRS practice/competition season for the Elementary, Youth, Junior and Senior teams runs from June 1st thru February 28th. The Tiny team season begins from June 1st thru December 20th. They do not participate in competitions but they have 3 performances for family and friends. How many competitions do you participate in? This year we have increased the number of competitions we will participate in. Our dance teams will participate in 5 competitions and our cheer teams will participate in 5 competitions. The Junior and Senior teams participate in Nationals in addition to the other competitions. Do parents have to be at every practice? The parents are requested to not stay at practices. We have learned that no matter the age of the participant, they practice more efficiently when a parent is not present. What is the practice schedule? The coaches set their practice schedule at the beginning of a season and will provide to their team members at the first practice. However, there are times that the coaches may add practices based on whether or not they determine a need prior to competition. How many coaches are there? Each team has 1 head coach and 1 assistant coach. How many teams are there? • 3-5 dance competition teams; • 4 cheer competition teams; • 1 mini cheer/dance performance team(s). How are teams determined? Teams are based on age and ability. There are circumstances where a team member may try out for the next level team based on his or her abilities.
How often is the gym open? The gym is usually open to all members on Tuesdays and Thursdays during open gym. We also offer special tumbling and stunting sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays. If a team member would like to use the gym at a specific time and there is a coach available, permission needs to be requested and granted by Tamie Neilson. Does it cost anything to join? Registration fees are $50.00 for a new member and $25.00 for a returning member. We also offer special rates for families with 2 or more team members. How much does a season cost? Our goal of the Wolf River Stars is to keep cost as low as possible. We offer several ways for families to fund-raise to keep the costs down. Families may choose not to fund-raise and make one payment. Fees include, but are not limited to: uniform, competition fees and building/operating expenses. The estimated cost for a WRS member will range between $150 and $250 for the regular season. The Junior and Senior teams need to estimate an additional $250 for Nationals, which we also fund-raise to help defer the cost. What other costs are there? There are additional costs that the parents need to plan on which include, but are not limited to, cheer shoes, body suit, spanky or boy shorts, hair ribbons and cheer curls/hair piece (pending age and coach preference). If a team member is on the dance team, they will be responsible for all costs associated with costume and practice outfit which are specifically designed for the participating dance team member. We try to keep these costume cost around $50 and dance shoes around $20. If a team member does a solo, duet or ensemble dance routine, they will be responsible for all costume and shoe costs associated with that routine.
